full agreement. the debut is just this perfect, weird, dynamic album.

nothing else came close in her later career. including that annoying prince cover. that always pissed me off— that that’s how and why she became really REALLY famous. it’s so sappy to my mind and ears.

i love her vocal contribution to “empire” by bomb the bass, where she sings “vampire” in place of “empire”.

haven’t watched that documentary. that’s not to say i don’t very much want to. did you read “rememberings”? is it similar?

just opened the ol’ internets this morning to the following: “foo fighters join alanis morissette for sinéad o’connor tribute” for FUCK’S sake. leave the poor woman’s ghost and aching ears alone. no doubt she’s rolling her ghostly eyes.

…and washing the sand with her salty tears.

forevermore.

I haven't read Rememberings. I imagine there will be crossover information between her memoir and the documentary given there are many interviews with Sinead and others who worked with her and stood by her - ex husband, friends, pr, etc. Another interesting thing with the doc is the Prince estate didn't allow the cover to be used. The song made her a reluctant star and there is emphasis on the fact she wasn't into the attention but tried to parlay it to bringing her activism to light. Touche in closing with "Jackie."

does the documentary go into any details on the UTTERLY fucked up night she spent with prince?? (by her telling in the book) it was a violent, bizarre several hours of basically being held hostage. i’d imagine that’s why the estate didn’t grant permission. ha!

No sordid details there. I imagine that's on the cutting room floor and ready to be reintroduced at a later date. If there is one problem with the documentary it is that there are a couple spots that feel as if there are omissions or edits for time.
