Merry Christmas. And Macabre tidings to you.
A new release from The Canyon Observer titled Figura is due January 9, 2023 on Kapa Records. What is on display includes additional emphasis on experimental elements and orchestration. Dual drums, squalling brass, moody string work, percussion are brought behind the woodshed and beaten into something akin to Naked City doing an interpretation of a Harry Partch composition or Zappa using members of Zu, Laddio Bolocko, Borbetomagus, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and reworking a Varese piece. Whatever your poison, let your eyes and ears drink deep.
Ever look at the instruments Harry Patch built? Dr Seuss, right… visually on point but there is a method to the madness. First, a great documentary and, then, a more academic look into the theories of Partch’s sound world.
And allow Classical Nerd to educate you. Don’t worry, he isn’t a stuffy snob. He rules.
Now, from the high brow to low hanging fruit… the mighty Treevenge.

Circling back for more? Take this… live Eaters of the Soil. Doom jazz noise improv to pair up with The Canyon Observer. These fine fellows have 4 releases in 2022. Pulverizing slowed swing and daubed in noise. Perfect for those annoying next door neighbors playing Christmas standards.
This was local. I missed it. Fortunately my friend documented it.
Returning from space….The Avant-Void head honcho Pan Entropy has compiled the following for your listening (dis)pleasure.
And, returning for more traditional cheer, Kim Bendix Petersen has no gifts to give. His alter will tell you so.
Snow Miser and Heat Miser from Year Without a Santa Claus.
Now, get out of my house…
