Quick hitter substack for the weekend. First up is one of the Black Plague Circle (Bosnia and Herzegovina) mainstays, Izrod… formerly Void Prayer or first known as Izrod, then Void Prayer now a return to Izrod. Geez, this is tiring. Just listen to the god damn thing. It rules.
Keeping up the hyper velocity black metal intensity is multi-nation army of Calligram. New album to come out via Prosthetic Records. Trepanation will handle the cassette version of this release.
Mileage may vary with this new Swans track. I’m a sucker. I pre-ordered the dcd. I don’t particularly like this song, and I expect to hear John Goodman as Madman Mundt reply to Gira to “Look upon me….”
Good looking out to Invisible Oranges for the premiere of a new Allochiria track.
Keeping it in the bounds of Greece, new Decembrerance brings the doom. Curiously enough, much like the Japanese Doom, bearing fretless bass. These dudes are lifers who bring a twist to early My Dying Bride, Anathema, Paradise Lost with additional dissonances.
Continuing the old school vibe…. Did you ever wonder what it would sound like if Martin VanDrunen moved to Japan with Asphyx or Hail of Bullets? Wonder no more, Parasitario has you covered. Death, glorious death.
Ascended Dead and 20BuckSpin? You betcha. More whacked guitar tone than before. Think more Suffering Hour wet effects.
ТДК / TDK with a video from the studio in 2022 in Vancouver.
If it’s on Ordovician Records it is as good as purchased. Vexing, out of Denver, bring Grand Reproach. First song, which was on their first demo, is done up bigger and grimier with a sludge crust grind attack recalling a cross of Yautja and Yashira.
Conglaciation has ties to Artificial Brain (Cotter W. Champlin) and finds this demo track mastered by Colin Marston. So, before you listen, you wouldn’t be mistaken if you guess this will be full on skronk.
Speaking of skronk… Asystole had a song premiere over at No Clean Singing entitled “Blanketed in Flies.” Listen and read about it there. This album comes out early April on I, Voidhanger. The four members of this sonic coven also do time in Thaetas, Aberrated, Needlepusher, Kyrios, Windfaerer, Replicant, Abominism, and Dark Waters End.
Another Nightmarer video track… and another song that delivers damage in the form of the “Hammer of Desolation.”
A second HEROD track to ponder prior to release.

Leave it to Rob Hammer to introduce me to a band from the city where I dwell… Call of Pripyat.
What’s even better is news of Mico and Vientre doing a run of east coast shows… and the Philly show is the day after Voivod invades Underground Arts.
Speaking of Voivod… unearthed audio from 1987… live in the Netherlands.
Vincent Rosa/starkweather plying his trade with thrash grinders UltraMantis Black:
And me with the Metal Dad talking horror flicks of the early 2000s.
